Zero Tolerance: Boba Fett EDH Deck

Hi, my name is Dennis Michels and welcome to my new blog series called Zero Tolerance, in which I discuss anything Rule 0 related. Rule 0 comes into play when you actually want to do something that is not allowed within the regular ruleset. Before you start playing you sit down with your playgroup to talk about what you want to do and if they allow it. Be as clear and open about what you intend to do and why you want to do it, possibly going as far as letting your playgroup inspect your deck. Most people will allow your fun build, at least once, if they expect it will give them a joyful experience.

In this first episode I want to tell you all about my Boba Fett EDH deck. Ever since I discovered the Star Wars: The Gathering project I am obsessed with building an EDH deck with it. So I have decided on building a Bounty Hunters deck with Boba Fett as the commander.

So, about Boba. As you might know this bounty hunter just launched his own book, which is actually a tv series. I haven’t really followed the happenings of his previous show,The Mandalorian, as I just was unable to finish sitting through the first episode … I gave up halfway. Guess I’m just not Star Wars nerd enough. Despite of my lack of knowledge about Boba Fett’s latest exploits, I am still a fan of the character and after discovering the SW: The Gathering project this quickly became the deck I needed to build.

All about that flavor

The deck is built using a mix of SW:TG, regular MTG cards and one Un-card in the form of Giant Fan, which lets you move counters around. I just could not resist adding that one with all those bounty counters, which will be discussed more below. While on the topic of moving counters around we can also  achieve this same effect using Nesting Ground, a little less efficiently though.

There are some great flavorful regular MTG cards to be added to this deck, such ase Bad Moon acting as the Death Star perhaps, Meteor Crater which speaks for itself, Whispersilk Cloak doubling as a Jedi’s Robe, the Stratadon as the almighty AT-AT Walker and of course the unavoidable pun that is  Meteoric Mace Windu!

The plan

So, after pouring over all the cards in this fan-made set I decided on the plan to just battlecruise down the opponent’s creatures, using Bounty Counters to generate extra value.

Bounty counters were first introduced in the Tempest set with the card called Bounty Hunter, it was later expanded on to 2 other cards, of which unfortunately one is not usable in this deck due to its color identity. Throughout this deck the bounty counters are used for effects such as drawing cards with Boba Fett, gaining life through Wookiee Bounty Hunter or ramping lands thanks to Bossk. There’s also plenty of ways to put bounty counters on creatures of course, for example using Chevill, Head Hunting, Bounty Spotter, Bounty Hunter or the aforementioned Giant Fan.

When needed the boardstate can be reset with some great wipers like Order 66, The Battle of Geonosis or The Battle of Yavin. Spot removing threats can be achieved with Grand Moff Tarkin, No Contest or Smash to Smithereens

Plenty of card advantage is available, thanks to cards like Greedo, Black Market Dealer and the man Boba Fett himself. And for ramping there are some great options available, like the various holocrons, but also something flavorful as Meteorite to go along the staples Sol Ring and Arcane Signet

The Decklist

Well, with the plan out of the way here, nothing left to stop me from showing you The List!

Final Note

When building a deck like this it is fun to just go all out. For that reason I bought Star Wars sleeves from eBay. My deckbox is an old Decipher SW CCG Sealed Tournament Deckbox. And I got some cool Star Wars lands sponsored from Pluch’s Giveaway Station and stole the cool Phyrexian Painlands from Sheepwave. Last but not least, I bought Star Wars dice produced by the OP
