The 5th James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, was born in Navan, County Meath, Ireland on 5/16/52. His family moved to London when he was 11 and on the very day of Ian Flemming’s death. He ran away with the circus to become a fire eater in his teens. His first real job was as a commercial artist but was introduced to acting when he became part of a theatre group. He became a student at the Drama Centre in London and studied classical drama and character comedy acting for three years.
He became an acting assistant stage manager and was chosen by Tennessee Williams to play a role in one of his theatre productions. Pierce starred in numerous other stage shows. He later earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role in “Nancy Astor”, a BBC TV Series. His first American mini-series was The Manions Of America, that brought him to the attention of the American public. This led to his starring TV role as “Remington Steele” and his permanent move to Los Angeles. “Remington Steele” was one of the most widely viewed syndicated series Internationally.

Known the world over for his formidable good looks and talent, Pierce has graced the covers of hundreds of top magazines and publications throughout the world and appeared in several TV commercials. All of this occurred after landing the part of Remington Steele. He was chosen to become Roger Moore’s successor as James Bond during his stint as Steele but those efforts were thwarted by his contractual obligations to his TV bosses.
His companion is Keely Shaye-Smith, a journalist, who is the mother of his almost one year old son Dylan Brosnan .

His late wife actress Cassandra Harris had starred in an earlier James Bond movie, “For Your Eyes Only”. She passed away in 1991 as a result of ovarian cancer. Pierce has raised their children, Christopher, Charlotte and Sean William while becoming an ardent supporter of research into women’s cancer raising over $6,000,000 to combat ovarian and breast cancer. He serves as Ambassador for Women’s Health Issues for Permanent Charities of the Entertainment Industry. He has also embraced environmental issues including dolphin protection, and has participated in other ECO and Greenpeace campaigns. |
Based on his original interest in commercial art, he has pursued his aptitude and become an accomplished painter.
He recently starred in the thriller Dante’s Peak, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, and proved his comic flair in Mrs. Doubtfire. Pierce also earned acclaim with his work in such mini-series as “Around The World In 80 Days,” and “Noble House”. Brosnan has launched his own production company with an intimate and moving Irish Independent film, “The Nephew,” a modestly budgeted production in Ireland with Pierce assuming a supporting role. |
Pierce made his debut as 007 in “GoldenEye” which was the most successful Bond film in history earning an incredible 350 million dollars. His second Bond film is United Artist’s “TOMORROW NEVER DIES” opening this month. His comic flair, good looks and energy-charged approach to screen action, and own brand of romantic appeal have helped him establish his personalized version of James Bond. His acting also reflects his athletic talent honed when he was a member of a British improvisational theatre troupe noted for its acrobatic demands on its actors. He frequently handles his own stunt work in films, endowing it with his light comedic touch.
