Muraganda is a prehistoric plane where Vanilla matters. It recently was teased by art on the full-art Ruxa card in Strixhaven with a reference to the Muraganda Petroglyphs, leading to new speculations of WotC preparing for a visit to this plane.
Muraganda is currently an 8 on the Rabiah scale, making it very unlikely that we will ever visit this plane, however in a Blogatog post by Mark Rosewater it was stated that it’s a matter of WHEN and not IF. Mark also notes that the focus will be more on the prehistoric setting of the plane, instead of the Vanilla Matters mechanical theme. Rumors are that the Dermotaxi card from MH2 is set on the Muraganda plane. Ofcourse, this is neither officially confirmed, nor denied by WotC.
Muraganda has also been featured on a Planechase card highlighting the Feeding Grounds.
Another creature from MH2 called Aevem Progenitor Ooze has also been rumored to reside on Muraganda. Again, this is neither confirmed nor denied by WotC. Also if there is any relation to the Mimeoplasm has yet to be seen. If we were to visit the Muraganda plane, I am confident we will learn more about their relationship (if any). Hopefully the set will have some much needed tribal support for Oozes too!
About 7 years ago today Blogatog held a poll with its readers to measure which themes and/or planes are the most popular requested, most of these have now already been honored so far. Muraganda with its 7th place in the poll is now the highest ranked unvisited plane here making it a very likely prospect for visiting in the near future, especially combined with the Prehistoric theme which takes the 12th place in the poll.
Hopefull Mark Rosewater will soon update the Rabiah scale rating of Muraganda
My prediction? It will be a set in the not too distant future, I’m guessing January 2024. This plane just screams January release to me for some reason 🙂
