Staying Alive – Episode 2

I have been pondering my statistics orb again the past few days, and now the time has come to share with you some of the trends that I noticed.

Let’s start off by comparing this week’s results with the previous week. Note about the bar sizes; taller bars means higher interest by users, smaller bars means less interest.

As you can see in Week 3 the searches for Middle Earth CCG have been overtaken by Chaotic TCG. Chaotic TCG is a game with an interesting history, dating back to the original collectibles called Dracco Heads, released in 1999. It’s not entirely clear where the sudden popularity spike is coming from as the last interesting news relating to this game was the revival of the original Dracco Heads in 2020. So what is going on here? You tell me..

What is also interesting is the growth in searches for X-Files CCG. I have taken a detailed look at the statistics and notice a trend of people actually in search of an X-Files Priceguide. Unfortunately I do not own one, but this certain trend is interesting enough for me to take a better look at price trends for this game. Now, we don’t sell much X-Files cards on our site (yet!), so I had to get my data elsewhere. And no better place to get sales data than eBay of course. So, I did a seach for sold X-Files listings starting November 1st of 2021 and shoved all results into an excel sheet to make you this list of 25 most valuable products for this game. Not surprisingly, the top position is taken up by display boxes..

Do bear in mind that these are only just the averages of sold eBay listings in the past 2 months! I will try to keep gathering data on this, the upcoming months, to get a more holistic overview. For completeness sake, here’s a full list of my findings

A big surprise to me this week is the decline in popularity of Middle Earth CCG. Considering the debacle with the Tolkien Society the past weeks I actually expected an even bigger peak in results than previously. Alas, it was not mean to be. The actual interest in the Tolkien Society has already flat-lined again according to Google Trends.

I don’t want to delve too deep into the happenings surrounding the Tolkien Society, but a brief explanation might not hurt. So, someone shared a picture of J.R.R.Tolkien on Twitter congratulating him on the 130th birthday. As it seems the Tolkien Society had bought the rights to that picture for a substantial amount previously and replied to the OP asking if he has the rights to post this picture, starting a small Twitter war against themselves by outraged fans. Pretty soon the Tolkien Society gave up and changed their status to private. Still users would post memes and all kinds of edits of the poor mr.Tolkien..

As a last note I would like to add that thanks to the help of the Dead CCG Facebook group I finally have a full cardlist available for Citizen Z-G or Zeta Gear CCG. I’m hoping to see a rise in hits for that game soon in my data.

That’s all for this week. Thank you all for reading!
