MTG Rumors: Is this going to be the next MTG Remaster set?

Wizards of the Coast registered trademarks for Exodus: Once and Future and for Chronicle: Once and Future. They also renewed the trademark for Exodus. Exodus getting a Remaster set is a pretty easy guess, following the huge popularity of the Timespiral Remastered set. However, what the Chronicle trademark means is not a very easy one. A reprint set for Chronicles is speculated on already, but I honestly doubt they will remaster a single set, which is already a reprint set by itself and was received with a lot of criticism by the community back then.

Exodus was a small set released in 1998 as a part of the Tempest block. The main mechanics for this block were Buyback and Shadow, of which Shadow is highly likely to see a return in a remaster set. Precedence have already been made for this mechanic in Modern Horizons 2 with the addition of Dauthi Voidwalker and a small series of Shadow creatures in Timespiral Remastered. Shadow is not an Evergreen keyword, and is not even considered Deciduous!

The Tempest block consists of 3 sets, the aforementioned Exodus, but also Tempest and Stronghold. The block had already been remastered before in Magic Online for a short while in May 2015, and has been planned for a return ever since. It would be neat of Wizards to release this promised remaster set for both their online games and in paper too! Famous cards from the Tempest block includes Earthcraft, which makes for a nice combo with recently reprinted Squirrel Nest. Sadly Earthcraft is on the Reserve List, so don’t go expecting a reprint for that one (although, you never know when/if WotC is going to abolish or revise that list!)

Another hint at Exodus and the rest of the block getting a reprint is the huge addition of Sliver cards in Timespiral Remastered and Modern Horizons. Slivers have been a fan-favorite tribe ever since their first appearance in Tempest.

Personally I am beyond excited at the prospect of another Remastered set. So, here’s hoping!
